The Pirouette: The 'Sweet Spot' for Your Equine Photoshoot Experience
In dressage, a pirouette represents balance and focus.
I chose to name the session this way, as it offers exactly that—the sweet spot of time and artistic depth. If you are looking for a session that does justice to the horse of a lifetime, The Pirouette is the perfect choice. It is designed to provide both a comprehensive gallery and a finished, museum grade framed image without feeling over-complicated.
I lead with behavior. I don't force a horse into a frame; I create an environment where their temperament and the light can actually meet. By working with the horse’s natural responses and your shared rhythm, the shoot becomes a reflection of reality rather than a staged event.
I see the quiet language of your partnership. It’s in the way the two of you occupy the same space. I’m looking for the subtle cues that define your specific bond—the details that make your horse unmistakably yours.
Nikki & Millie at Turvey House
A photograph should never feel forced, and horses certainly don't work to a strict stopwatch. Unlike shorter sessions, The Pirouette gives us a generous window to work at your horse’s pace. It allows for a relaxed rhythm, ensuring we capture those quiet, genuine expressions that only happen when you aren’t watching the clock.
We saw this in action recently when I travelled from Northamptonshire, for a session at Turvey House with Nikki and her black mare Millie. When we first unloaded the box, Millie was understandably a little unsure of the new environment, offering a few anxious circles as she took in the surroundings.
Because we had the luxury of time, there was no pressure. After Nikki changed into her first outfit and took Millie exploring, the mare settled beautifully. She became so relaxed in the environment that she eventually offered a spectacular headcollar-free shot (with just a rope around her neck) on the balustrade. With plenty of treats and an extra pair of hands from Aimee to keep everything safe and low-pressure, we were able to capture a moment of pure trust and elegance that brought a tear to Nikki's eye during the session.
physical art Matters
We spend our lives in the stable and on the yard, but we rarely have the chance to see that relationship from the outside. These images serve as a permanent anchor for that feeling.
The Pirouette session is built around the delivery of a hand-finished A2 Signature Frame measuring 16.5 x 23.4 inches. Signature frames are the weight and the truth of the time you spend together—taking those fleeting moments of connection and turning them into a museum-quality statement piece that belongs on your wall.
The Experience
This session provides the versatility to tell a complete story. We have the time for wardrobe changes and moving between locations on the yard; whether that’s artistic black-background portraits, ridden work, or liberty shots in the field. Along with your signature wall art, you receive 10 high-resolution digital files, skillfully hand-edited by Emily for your own archives, sharing, and printing.
You are booking because you want your horse to be seen for exactly who they are. You need a photographer who understands equine behavior well enough to navigate the session with conviction, ensuring the bond is the only thing that shows up in the final frame. Every detail is handled to ensure a seamless experience:
• Mileage within 30 miles of Northamptonshire is included.
• Assistance with location and outfit choices as well as booking stylists and extra support.
• Every session is securely managed with the flexibility to adjust for weather or yard life, ensuring the schedule never compromises the quality.
• Professional, safe delivery of your finished, framed art.
